How to get Ash Blonde/Brown Hair

The other day I bleached my sister's hair even more because it became really orange and brassy (which noone wants). Ugh, it does suck having dark hair sometimes and having to bleach it to go through all the pigments of dark red brown to red to orange to yellow to pale yellow, and then obviously to killing your hair! But beauty is pain huh? It is absolutely more challenging for people with dark hair as we are more susceptible to brassiness and also because our hair takes a longer process to lift pigments.

First off let's talk about brassy hair. What is it? Brassy hair is another term used to describe hair that have a reddish-orangish-yellowish tone to the hair. It is the unwanted warmth of colour that occurs when you've bleached your hair. Some others causes that may act as 'brassy catalysts' include ocean water, shampoos containing sulcate, swimming pools, and I'm sure there are many more that cause brassiness in hair.

Well moving forward, I just want to say that I am not an expert on hair. What I am telling you is what I've learnt from hairdressers in the past which I've used to do other people's hair (because ain't nobody gna spend $250 when they can get it for free) LOL. Anyways this was the process I had done on my sister:

Before anything mix the powder and developer together, making sure consistency looks does not look too runny or too thick (recommended and products I used below page)

1. Section off your hair into four
2. Apply bleach to the bottom of the hair first and then work your way up
3. Stop applying the bleach when you get to 2-3 cm away from the scalp
4. Leave the bleach on for 1.5 - 2.5 hrs depending on how fast it can lift
5. Again section off the hair and wrap foil around it so that the heat is locked in
6. After the hours, apply the bleach to the unbleached hair (We bleach the hair closest to the scalp because it lifts fast as our head produces more heat for it to do so)
7. Leave the bleach on for another hour and a half or for longer, again depending on how much it has lifted or if it is burning your scalp and becomes more itchy
8. After this you can wash it all off
9. Apply purple shampoo
10. Leave the purple shampoo on for more than two hours
11. Wash hair after the two hours
12. Dye the hair using an ash brown hair dye from any good brand
13. Leave hair dye on for 20-30 minutes and wash
14. Blow dry and apply oil to hair

Also, I haven't mentioned this but do take in mind that when buying a developer remember that the higher the volume then the higher the strength and the faster the process of your hair lifting. I don't recommend getting volumes of 40 or 50 as it will destroy your hair even more. I usually just get a developer that is volume 30 as hairdressers have told me that my hair is strong and can handle it. Otherwise if you or your hairdressers have told you that your hair is week then I recommend 10 or 20.

Also remember to use purple shampoo once or twice a week and leave it in for long as well as using a toner for the other days leaving that in for 4-5 minutes whilst in the shower. Do not use shampoos that contain sulcate as it will trigger brassiness and always remember to apply oil as well as using hair masks which contain keratin two to three times a week.

Products I would recommend to use are listed below the page:

The two images below are the aftermaths of the bleaching and dying process.

Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo
Delorenzo Novafusion Silver
Hi Lift Blue Blonde Highlighter Powder Bleach
Innovative Cream Developer
Nume Argan Oil
Nume White Truffle Hair Primer
Nume White Truffle Leave In Conditioner
Nume White Truffle Hair Mask
Macadamia Natural Oil

I just also wanted to say that this process will not work for everyone and that if you are wanting to get from black to ash blonde or brown and it is your first time, please do be careful otherwise go to the hairdressers and get it done there first. Additonally, this process takes such a long time and maintaining an ashy colour is SOOOO high maintenance but it's worth it!

I will hopefully doing some reviews on some Nume products so look out for that!

Thanks for reading, good luck and I'll catch ya guys later!
